How to Use an IBAN Checker
An IBAN checker examines your entered bank account string against official international standards defined by ISO 13616 and the European Payments Council (EPC). When you input an IBAN, our tool performs a multi-stage validation pipeline:
- Country Code Inspection: Ensures the first two letters correspond to a recognized SEPA or ISO member country.
- Length Verification: Compares the total character count against the exact required length for that specific jurisdiction (e.g., 22 characters for Germany, 18 for Austria, 21 for Switzerland).
- MOD-97 Checksum Validation: Converts letters to numbers, moves the country code and check digits to the end, and calculates the ISO 7064 Modulus 97 remainder to guarantee it equals 1.
- Bank Directory Lookup: Extracts routing codes and bank identifiers to fetch institution names and BIC details (fully supported for Germany).
